WIP Announcement and Solitude Update

Great news on two fronts. First, I wanted to let you know that I have figured out the best way to reboot the Solitude twitter-fiction. Except an announcement of the new prologue start date before next Monday.

Second, last night I hit about 6K works of rough work on a suspense novel I've started very recently. At that point (one or two chapters in) I decided to give it over to Rose for feedback. It's less than a first draft, more a proof of concept. The concept, apparently, works! That means I'm now officially 6,000/~120,000 into my solo WIP. Tomorrow I will talk a little more about the project and firm up the word count goal. Tonight I plan on doing my chapter run outline and that'll give me a better feel for that.

It's going to be a fun one to write, and I'm looking forward to talking more about it soon.

Don't forget -- the Solitude: Prologue starts this Wednesday! If you're not sure what I'm talking about, check out the trailer!

The story starts on June 1, of course, but you'll want to sign up to follow the Solitude twitter feed before that. Why?

Because while the prologue has been outlined and a few key elements have been fully scripted, it is also interactive. Interactive? Yes, interactive! You will get to interact with the the MC of Solitude between the 20th of May and the 1st of June, giving you an opportunity to help determine how well we know him, and to help shape the context in which things turn bad at the start of the full story.

And not only that, but remember there is also a contest involved. A contest? Yes, a contest! Everyone who signs up to follow the Solitude story via its unique twitter feed (not mine!) before the full story starts on June 1 will be entered into a drawing to win one of find, spiral-bound copies of the complete Solitude, signed by me.

In case you haven't gathered from the trailer, Solitude will be a story of psychological suspense about a man who takes an ordinary job in Washington, D. C., only to be confronted by a sudden and terrifying turn of events! You will be reading his very words as he struggles against shadows that might be imagined, or might be the very real yet unseen.

Note -- for those concerned about such things, the language will be clean, the themes suspenseful but appropriate for a wide audince, and because you will be reading the MC's words, any violence would only be as graphic as you might personally imagine.

All Business

Haven't felt like I've been super-creative the past couple of days, but I've made some good headway on the business side of writing. There's the trailer for Solitude, of course. And I have submitted, "When You Wish Upon a God," to American Short Fiction," and have prepped "Vengeance and the Offending Page" for Ellery Queen's. I think the former has a pretty good shot, thanks in large part to a few key comments from readers (Thanks, B Nagel -- Thanks, Robert Marclar). I know the latter is a little edgier than most of what EQMM runs, but I sent to their Department of First Stories, so we shall see.

Which brings me to the other thing I've gotten accomplished. Thanks to the collaborative teaching of Casey and Heather, I have gotten a Ning group started for those who want to read and comment or critique on my stories, even if only occasionally. If you have any interest, drop me a comment or send me an e-mail at c.n.nevets(at)gmail.com. It's a private group for obvious reasons so I'll need to invite you.

I definitely appreciate quality readers. The areas I tend to appreciate help in the most are (a) consistency of tone and voice, (b) writing of action sequences, as opposed to dialoge or internals, and (c) catching those last little proof-ready things that my mind skipped over. If you're interested, just let me know! I will also be posting teasers for stories as I submit then, just to get you interested.

Well, I feel like I need to be creative for a while, that's it for tonight. Oh, wait, I did manage to write a pretty gross Flashy Fiction today.

Details on Solitude!

I’ve dropped a few hints, but here is the first official notice about, Solitude, an upcoming serialized suspense Twitter-fiction by yours truly. Sign up now to follow at http://www.twitter.com/solitude_story! You can see the first trailer here!

Solitude will track the communiqués of a man who starts off in an ordinary government job, only to have things so frighteningly wrong all of a sudden. The interactive prologue begins on 20 May 2009, so make sure you sign up early and pass the word. On 1 June, the story will officially begin with updates nearly every day throughout the course of the summer. The story will conclude on 20 August.

The prologue segment is outlined, but it is also open to interaction. The main character of the story will respond to your questions , comments, and messages, and the readers will have a chance to influence the development of the context for the story proper. Each day in real-time will pass as a day in the main character’s life.

The main story will take place over the course of a single day, spread out for the readers over the source of fifteen weeks.

Make sure to sign on as a follower early, because everyone who signs up before the prologue is over will be automatically entered for the chance to win one of five signed, spiral-bound copies of the full text of Solitude at the conclusion of the tale.
