I think the new shoes will be a good fit. I feel pretty comfortable with my decision to classify myself as an author of psychological suspense. From a practical standpoint, a lot of the stories that I'm sitting on from my teen years and twenties will be great starting points for some good short fiction in that genre.
Rose and I went out for coffee tonight and talked about this more, and when we were through it sounded pretty clear that based on my writing and reading styles and preferences, this was the way for me to go. We also talked about her individual writing, and she's definitely feeling comfortable with the idea of YA Fantasy. I think that's a great place for her for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that I think she has some things to say that will be very much to their benefit.
We also talked about our together projects. Turns out Casey was right. (Who's surprised, eh?!) In the course of conversation, we realized that one of our WIP's is actually already almost a YA fantasy psychological suspense novel.
More about actual writing this weekend, I promise, but I really need to grind through the practical side the past few days.
.Nevets.
Just making sure that you realize that when you query it, you query the novel as “suspense” and “YA” – not with all the other stuff you’re adding on to it. :)
ReplyDeleteBTW, I like the new look.
Oh, and I forgot to say – always listen to Casey. Always. Ha!
ReplyDeleteOh, golly, I would never query with that tongue twister. hahahahaha
ReplyDeleteBut I definitely appreciate your making sure -- 'cause if I didn't know, I would seriously need that wakeup call.
Given the mix in the novel, unless it chanaged dramatically as we outline and plot etc. over the next little while, we would most likely go with YA Fantasy, and just mention that it bears the unmistakable mark of C. N. Nevets in its suspsensful drive and twisting psychological journey.
hahahahahahahahahahahaha

oh and P.s. About Casey -- I don't doubt it!
Now, now... let's not always listen to me. That's a rather scary notion.
ReplyDeleteWell, on second thought....
Ahem. Glad it's working out. As tongue-twistery as it is, I knew a YA fantasy psychological suspense novel was totally doable. They are out there. Just... not with that title, for obvious reasons. I'm glad you're working things out though!
