Trying Not To Feel Like a Jerk

I have a really hard time writing fiction or even thinking about being a fiction writer when I feel the pain of real people's lives.

    My wife's family is going through a really rough time on a lot of different levels. Some of it's generating a whole lot of pain for some people.

    During times like that, when I go to start writing I feel silly, like making a story up trivializes real pain and suffering.

    I completely understand that. And it sucks. For me it doesn't trivialize real pain, but maybe it is too easy a scapegoat for it. Sorry, Nevets.
