Random Bits of Friday

All---

As write this post, I'm loading my iPod with audiobooks for a trip Rose and I are taking to northern Michigan.  It's only a 5 to 6 hour drive, but the A/C doesn't work and it's record heat, so distractions are in order.  I picked up Pigs Have Wings by P. G. Wodehouse and A Quiet Belief in Angels by R. J. Ellory.  Almost makes me wish we were driving even longer so we could listen more.

We'll be going to a cabin with some of Rose's family, and that means lots of reading.  As such, I hope to catch up with reading Creep by Jennifer HillierThe Wild Grass by Davin Malasarn, and Dancing in the Shadows of Love by Judy Croome.  At the top of the list, though, is Stories for Sendai.  I can't believe I haven't had a chance to read it yet; it's driving me crazy.

A little bit of random news, for those who want more ways to keep tabs on me.  I've created an author page on Amazon.com.  There are still a lot of kinks to work out, but they've been a pleasure to work with so I'm confident that will happen.  I also have a new, professional author page on Facebook: http://www.facebook/com/c.n.nevets.  Please like it if you get a chance!  In case you're unaware, I'm also pretty active on Twitter.

Okay, to wrap up, some crazy facts about the blog this week:

As of the writing of this post (Thursday night), the most popular post has been this post on the nature of help and the drive toward helpfulness.

I'm not surprised that, as usual, my audience is mostly from the US.  My UK readership has gone down a bit lately, which is somewhat disappointing, but they're still in second.  I know some of my blog readers from Australia, South Africa, Canada, and India -- so I'm not surprised to see them on the list, but none of them are third.  The third most popular nationality for hits on my blog is Brazil.  If any you Brazilians are reading this, it would make my day for you to say hello in the comments!   I love meeting people all over the world!

One of the top searches that brings people to the blog lately is "takoyaki," which is awesome.  If you don't know that this is, read here about portable octopus.  Probably the most disappointed person to reach my blog by Google search this week was the one who searched, "how to defeat aikido master."  Afraid I'm not near that level.

The coolest searches, though?

"genre wars by c. n. nevets"

"notes from underground anthology by c. n. nevets"

Awesome to have people coming here on purpose to find out about things I've written!

Okay, time to wrap up the scatter-shot update with this good news: I've started to get some of the feedback on my manuscript Sublimation, and it's been very encouraging so far.  I'm thrilled!

See you all soon.  I probably won't have live blogging access until early next week.  Chat amongst yourselves. :)

.Nevets.

  3. Bring me back a stick of rock, Nevets, and have a good time. Talking of downloading books, I've been trying to get hold of "TO DANCE WITH THE WHITE DOG" by Terry Kay as a download. It's a wonderful book and it is also one of those "nice-to-have-around" books.

  4. I'm totally jealous. You said 'northern Michigan' and I swear my heart ached a little. I miss it up there (anywhere up there - whether it's northern lower peninsula or the upper peninsula. Heck, I'd settle for anything north of Bay City at this point.) Have a great trip. And tell us all about it when you get back. I live in CO and I need some vicarious Michigan.

  5. @Donna - We almost melted in the heat, driving with no A/C, but we toughed it out and stayed mostly in coherent, solid form. :)

    @Jennifer - Thanks!

@Rosamund - You want peppermint or fruity? Any licorice or ginger or all mine. Mine, I tell you! :) And thanks for the tip on the book. I'll check it out!

@BE - I will do up a nice post for you to get you some of the color and atmosphere. We were up in the Grayling / Frederic / Mancelona area, mostly, but also took a trip over to Traverse City and up the coast to Cross Village. It was a good celebration of the lower peninsula's northern Michigan.
