By the way, I know I don't have many blog readers yet since I just started -- but anyone interested in reading some dark, disturbing experimental fiction? I have three stories, each under 3K that I'd like to get some second opinions on. I've done a lot of experimental, literary fiction in the past. I had some success with it in college, in fact. Most of what I've written along those lines has been more about romance and angst. These are about death and evil. It's new for me, and so I'm not totally sure how to evaluate them.
For that matter, since I don't really have a declaration of style or genre on the blog, I suppose it would good to let you know what it is I do write. My genres are really all over place. Everything from literary to fantasy, western to sci fi, mystery to suspense. What drives my writing is less a particular setting or category, and more the desire to explore human psychology and philosophy. It's not all dark by any means, but it tends to all deal with ethical struggles, redemption, and the lonely struggle of the individual.

ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I sort of lost myself at dark and disturbing, too. I don't normally read a lot of literary fiction, nor experimental. Which is part of why I'm not 100% sure of my self-evaluation!

Hmm. "Dark and disturbing." I did recently read a collection of H.P. Lovecraft. Talk about arcane and dripping with nihilistic philosophy.
